STATEMENT Through different postures, people send signals, communicating without words. The acquisition of knowledge and skills in non-verbal communication makes every encounter with another person an exciting experience. By observing people's gestures, Wing explores the non-verbal aspects or implications of face-to-face encounters. This observation has led to a body of work in which the intent is to show issues through modern women's postures, attitudes and emotions. There are also references to transitions within gender and culture. By creating wild, semi-surreal sculptures that resonate with different moods, Wing has found the prefect way to express her imagination. Wing's Chinese background dictates a certain position of inscrutability with complex traditions. After arriving in Australia from Hong Kong, she found she had to ascertain what was expected of her and found it difficult expressing herself in words - hence her expressive ceramic forms. She enjoys manipulating clay, finding out what it will and will not do, and exploring the unlimed possibilities of expression with the medium.
