BRONWEN NEWBURY

BRONWEN NEWBURY

b. 1962 Katanning, Western Australia

STATEMENT

The reasons for making art are many and varied.  For Newbury, it is all about place.

Wherever she is in the world there are influences which affect the way she sees, particularly the landscape, in all its diversity, from drought affected country to the lushness of the coast. She has no need to tell stories with paint, only to deliver on canvas her feelings for a place.

Newbury’s previous life spent in outback NSW still lingers in some of her paintings. The Great Southern, however, where she now lives, holds endless inspiration for her as an artist and lover of the landscape. There she is surrounded by everything and everyone she loves.  No other place has offered so much inspiration and, as a painter residing in Albany, there is no place she’d rather be to capture the moods of the coastal landscape and hinterland.
