STATEMENT
Living on several acres of land and being surrounded by nature and gum trees has influenced Gwenda's work with clay and brought attention the evolution that is continually taking place. The trees shedding their bark and new leaves shooting, flowers bursting from buds, before they drop their dried nuts, which come in so many shapes and sizes. Piles of bark and sticks, leaves and nuts scattered in random shapes all provide inspiration. Using iron based, grogged clays and more recently using paper clay, I am enjoying adding clay which has been impressed with nuts or bark and applying clay leaves and nuts to my thrown pieces.
I refer to my own drawings, and photographs which I have collected over many years. As my journey continues I realize the possibilities of creations in clay are limitless, as are the endless thoughts, creating yet more sleepless nights, when the most incredible ideas are born but often don't even make it to the morning. I am forever searching and loving the experience.
