Bacchanalia III

Gorepani’s annual wine themed art exhibition, Bacchanalia III, 30 September to 25 October.

This exhibition forms a part of the Great Southern Wine Festival, the Southern Art and Craft Trail and Traolach | xabregas Classical in the Gallery.

Pre-eminent Western Australian artists with strong Great Southern linkages - painters Jânis Nedêla and Serena McLauchlan and ceramicists Sandra Black and Robyn Lees – are participating in the 2004 Bacchanalia exhibition.

Jânis Nedêla and Serena McLauchlan were both born in Albany but moved out of the region after completing high school studies to pursue their art careers. Jânis is now a full time practicing professional artist, arts educator, curator, valuer and co-owner of Gallery East in Fremantle who exhibits both nationally and internationally, and whose work is found in many significant art collections in Western Australia and a number of overseas countries.  Serena is an emerging artist who has participated in a number of group shows in Perth, including a major joint exhibition with Emily Mabee at The Church Gallery in 2003, and whose work is being sought for selected group exhibitions, such as the2003 Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Biennial Award and the 2004 Bankwest Contemporary Art Prize.

Ceramicists Sandra Black and Robyn Lees were both born in Bairnsdale, Victoria.  Sandra moved to Kendenup as a teenager and attended Albany High School before pursuing her art career in Perth.  With 29 solo exhibitions and many more group exhibitions to her name, Sandra’s fine (and invariably pierced) porcelain clay works have been exhibited and collected nationally and internationally.  Robyn’s move to Denmark came just a few years ago after developing a career as a ceramic artist and educator in Perth. She is well known for her very audacious ladies that have been widely exhibited and collected throughout Australia.
